A natures paradise, Himachal Pradesh is  not only filled with nature but also with many local delicacies to tantalize your taste buds. If you are foodie at heart this place can do wonders to you.

Traditionally meals in Himachal Pradesh are eaten while seated either on the floor or on mattress and food is more often eaten with hands. Pahadi food is gaining popularity day by day. There are many restaurants in the state where one can easily tastes pahadi food. Weddings and home stays are also the options to taste authentic food of Himachal Pradesh.


Siddu :


      One of the
  most popular food of the region is Siddu.  It is usually cooked during  celebrations as well as on daily basis. People in Himachal are fond of siddu, this bread is made of wheat with yeast and is also popular among tourists. One can have it at any time of the day and can also be served as an appetizer.

       This pahadi dish also complements the main course. This tantalizing bread is filled with green peas, paneer, walnuts and served with desi ghee,daal [mainly lentil broth] or with green chutney [made of pudina]. It is one of the favorite food items of the people living in the region of Kullu, Mandi and Shimla.

 

Madra :



           One  of  the  most  authentic and outrageous dish of Distt Chamba. The traditional method  of cooking  without garlic and onion is something opulent and the exotic savour of madra just makes you praise spontaneously. It is completely a vegetarian dish and is inseparable part  of Chamba Dham. Madra is little sour in taste and it includes kidney beans, curd  and copious amount of ghee, which is quick enough to excite your eyes.


Babru : 

        Himachali babru is bit similar to bhatura and quite popular across the  state. Majority of people in Mandi, Kangra and Chamba often cook this food iten foor the breakfast. This deep fried bread is very delicious when served with chana, raita and pickle. One can also have this with any Indian sabzi along with a cup of tea. It  is one of the favourite breakfast of many people in Himachal. Nothing fills your stomach and taste buds better than a plate full of bar, cholle, raita and pickle.

 

Patrode :


       It is a vegetarian dish and a much-relished recipe in Himachal Pradesh. It is made from arbi leaves stuffed with gram and variety of spices, they are either steamed or fried. Patrode is cooked and consumed during the monsoons and help in preventing many monsoon illness. It is served hot with chutney and tea. Some people also  like to have it with curd and roti.


Askali :


        It is a vegetarian culinary originating from Himachal Pradesh. It is made with rice flour, semolina, chickpea paste with some spices. Traditionally the batter is baked on stone moulder. Askali can be eaten as a main course or as a snack. It is served with lots of ghee and urad daal. It is cooked in almost every household of  Himachal Pradesh during winters and in festivals.


Dahi Gosht:

         To experience this mouth watering and sumptuous gosht Chamba is the right place to visit in. This extensive dish is quick enough to excite  your eyes with its aroma. Which contains mutton, curd, spices and other herbs and is more eye-catching when served with rice and salad. 

         It is quite sophisticated and  having an influence of different culture. It is rich in curd and is completely a non- vegetarian dish, which can spice your tongue with its flavour and appeal. It is cooked more often in muslim dhams. 

 

Meetha : 


       This traditional sweet delicacy of the state is prepared during special occasions like weddings, festivals and celebrations. Meetha is
  made with rice, sugar, nuts and cardamom seeds. Its is usually served after meals and is always relished by local people. If you travelling to Himachal you must try this dessert.
